Vintage 2008 of the Original 1887 Single Vineyard Les Flandes in limited edition
Following our strong commitment with long ageing sparkling wines, we have just presented the vintage of our Original 1887, harvest 2008. This sparkling wine, made to pay homage to the very first bottle our family ever made, has been launched in a limited edition of 1.887 numbered bottles.
2008 was a very good year for long aging sparkling wines, with a rainfall a little over the average and temperatures a little under it. Being these the ideal conditions to achieve the perfect balance between acidity and sugar.
Original 1887
Llopart Original 1887 was born with the desire to perpetuate the family winemaking traditions of the 19th century. It is made only with grapes from the oldest mountain vines from Les Flandes. On this location the Montònega variety predominated long time ago. It is made respecting the maximum the traditional handcraft winemaking methods.
Montònega grape
From the Montònega grape extraordinary aging notes of a complex evolution can be extracted, though maintaining at the same time a delicate freshness and a subtle vibrancy. It has a delicate, long and persistent aftertaste, with ample volume.
The coupage is 50% Montonega, 25% Xarel·lo and 25% Macabeu from the oldest vineyards on the estate, located 380 meters above sea level in the area of Les Flandes. The vines grow there with limited vigor, but bear grapes of maximum concentration of flavours, aromas and character.
Les Flandes
The name of Les Flandes (enllaç al nostre apartat: Les Flandes) places us in a stronghold space formed by an amphitheater of vineyards, elevated on vertical walls of limestone rock that are more than 12 meters high. It is located in an area with an altitude of 380 meters, about 200 meters higher than the valley or depression in the Penedès area and with a north facing shaded area. Sunshine hours are limited, with a significant day-night temperature contrast. Due to the pluvial filtrations a landslide has occurred, allowing the access to the undersoil of the vineyards located on top and offering a glimpse into its unique roots. Les Flandes is surrounded by a huge lung of Mediterranean pine and oak forests with a great biodiversity and plenty of aromatic plants; and it is protected as an Area of Natural Interest.
Fruit of this site two very unique sparkling wines are obtained: the Original 1887 Single Vineyard Les Flandes Brut Nature and also the Ex·Vite Single Vineyard Les Flandes Brut. This last one was recently recognized with the Platinum Medal and considered Best in Show by the prestigious Decanter contest.
