Caves Llopart awarded with the 2017 Creu de Sant Jordi
The Creu de Sant Jordi is one of the most important recognitions a person or an institution can receive from the Generalitat de Catalunya. Caves Llopart has received this important award as recognition for its long record in a relevant sector of the Catalan economy, which is the one of producing wines and ‘caves’. We have reached a position of privilege in this area because of the quality of our wines and ‘caves’, and because of our constant wish to innovate. Furthermore, this year we celebrate the 130th anniversary of our foundation.
According to a document written in Latin, Llopart’s history goes back to January 7th, 1385, when Bernat Llopart (or Bernardus Leopardi) was granted the use of some vineyards located in what is today’s Heretat de Can Llopart de Subirats. It wasn’t until 1887 that Pere Massana started to label his cava with the name of the property he had in Subirats, that is: Llopart. This is the reason why he used a very special label, which is the one that still appears in all Llopart bottles. In this label we can see a panoramic view of the Can Llopart de Subirats country house and the mountains around. It is the first reference to a link between the Llopart from the Penedès region and viticulture.
Our family has dedicated more than 25 generations to taking care of our mountain vineyards, which follow very rigorous methods of viticulture that guarantee the best quality of our grapes, where all our well-known wines —Reserva, Gran Reserva and limited productions— stem from. We work the 95 acres of vineyards with the utmost respect for the environment and are certified as organic farmers.
Since 2016, Caves Llopart belong to the Premium programs started by the two main Catalan official touristic promoting entities (Barcelona Turisme and Agència Catalana de Turisme), which have described our views as a unique and fundamental experience in order to discover the essence of our country. Our visitors are offered a journey through the history of the family, from its beginnings to our current days, a visit to the private country house inherited in the 16th century, and the tasting of our wines, all in an exceptional environment of vineyards with outstanding views of the Montserrat Mountains.
For our company, located in the heart of the Penedès, a land of ‘cava’ and wine, it is an honour to be able to share our happiness after receiving this award. We take it as recognition for our long experience in the world of vine-growing and for our commitment with organic agriculture and long-term aging crafted ‘cava’. These are undoubtedly excellent news, especially because this very same year we celebrate our 130th anniversary.
