Llopart Original 1887 among the best wines in the world according to Wine Enthusiast 2023.
The international magazine of wines and sparkling wines has highlighted the “vitality” and “persistence of flavor” of the 2011 vintage of the Llopart Original.
With a score of 95 points, the Brut Nature Original 1187 is positioned at the top of the list of the prestigious magazine for Catalan and Spanish sparkling wines. The judges of this top 100 describe the Original as a great achievement due to its “deep straw” color and “constant column of bubbles.” Beyond the visual presence of the Original, the judges have described it as a blend of flavors, including fresh fruits like pineapple or apricot, and more toasted notes of almonds. They have also highlighted the “surprisingly lively and persistent” finish.
Llopart Original 1887 is a Corpinnat made with Montònega, Xarel·lo, and Macabeu, with an aging of over 108 months. These varieties are cultivated and aged in an idyllic space in Penedès, the Flandes vineyards, from Llopart Estate, located at an altitude of 380 meters and around 85 years old. The sun hours in Flandes are limited, resulting in vineyards with a significant temperature contrast throughout the day, enhancing the acidity of the grapes.
The Original is a living reference to the history of the Llopart family: the tribute that Llopart Original 1887 represents to the first bottle of sparkling wine crafted by the family. For this reason, the label of this sparkling wine remains unchanged, serving as an exact replica of the one first released for sale in 1887.
In this year’s edition of the Wine Enthusiast magazine, other sparkling wines from Llopart are also highlighted. The Brut Nature Leopardi and the Llopart Rosé Brut, both Corpinnats, receive distinctive scores in the sparkling wine category. The Llopart Leopardi, with 93 points, is defined as a sophisticated blend of fruity and nutty notes, while the Llopart Rosé Brut, with 93 points, is positioned as one of the world’s leading rosé sparkling wines.
This year Llopart also celebrates the 40th anniversary of Llopart Leopardi on the market, one of our most recognized sparkling wines. Leopardi is the final result of the flagship varieties of our estate: Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada, after aging of more than sixty months, made as a tribute to the first winemaker ancestor of the family.
