Pere Llopart receives recognition for his career in the cava sector
Pere Llopart received the recognition for his career within the world of cava from the Confraria del Cava (a cava association/brotherhood). The Confraria highlighted Pere’s determinacy to place Cava within the highest quality sparkling wines in the world.
Pere Llopart, president and refounder of Llopart, belongs to the 4th generation of sparkling wine makers and the 24th generation of winemakers. A lineage rooted in Subirats since 1385, when, according to a parchment that belongs to the family archives, Bernardus Leopardi was granted with some vineyards and a country house in today’s Llopart Estate.
Mr Llopart has always been a tireless winemaker and vine-grower, and has dedicated his life to continue the legacy of his ancestors. He studied oenology while doing the military service in Vilafranca del Penedès, when he was 18 years old: “my father was unsure about this. He wanted me to study Economics or something like that, and was always trying to convince me about how hard the world of wine is. But I felt inheritor of my family’s legacy and wanted to start over the production of quality sparkling wines that my great-grandfather had started.” The first bottling, in the 1950s, had to be done almost sneakily. That first bottling was followed by years and years of dedication and passion.
It was working elbow to elbow with his wife, Jacinta Llopart, and afterwards with their children, that the winery grew bigger and consolidated Llopart wines as quality references in the sector.
This recognition comes after the Creu de sant Jordi award, given by the Catalan Government to Llopart winery in 2017 as an appreciation for its great work and contribution in the Catalan wine business.
