Harvest 2019

An excellent vintage that presages sparkling wines with exceptional aging potential

“On October 7 we finished the 2019 harvest with the picking of the Sumoll vineyards. It has been an excellent harvest, which will be remembered as one of the best vintages in the area due to the health of the grapes. The balance achieved during ripening has favored musts with great ageing potential.”

“This year’s harvest began on August 19 with the earliest varieties, followed by macabeu (August 24), xarel·lo (August 28) and parellada (September 10), these three being the main varieties of can Llopart estate. The location of our vineyards, at high altitude and in the mountains, favors a slower ripening of the grapes and a later harvest than the dynamics of the Penedès area.”

“The vineyards of Heredad Can Llopart grow in terraces on the slopes of the Subirats hillsides between 310 and 510 meters above sea level and have a northern orientation, which gives them protection during the hours of most intense sunshine. They are old vines, with an average age of 40 years, cultivated in an ecological way, growing in calcareous soils surrounded by Mediterranean forest of pines and oaks and wild scrubland in an environment classified as an area of Natural Interest (PEIN).”

“All in all, the rainfall has been very beneficial for the vineyard, as it has occurred at the most appropriate times: during October and November (to generate reserves for the following year) and punctually in May and July (which helped moderate summer temperatures).”
