Llopart obtains the Fire Wine seal

For its commitment to land management and fire prevention

Subirats, March 3, 2026 – Llopart has been awarded the Fire Wine seal, a distinction that recognizes wineries and agricultural producers for their commitment to land management and landscape protection as a key tool in forest fire prevention.

The certification, promoted by the Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya (CTFC), highlights the role of mosaic landscapes (those combining agricultural areas, forests, and open spaces) as a strategic element in addressing large wildfires in the context of the climate emergency.

Pere Llopart, technical director of Llopart, and Soazig Darnay, coordinator of Fire Wine, in one of the estate’s vineyards.

For Pere Llopart, technical director of the winery, this recognition reinforces a way of working deeply rooted in the territory: “At Llopart, we understand viticulture as an activity integrated within a living ecosystem. Managing the landscape is not only an environmental responsibility, but also a commitment to quality, resilience, and the future of our environment. The Fire Wine seal recognizes this vision and the commitment we have maintained for generations to the land.”

Can Llopart: a high-value agroforestry unit

The Can Llopart estate, located in Subirats, is a high ecological, environmental, and landscape-value agroforestry unit. The estate includes:

  • 102 hectares of mountain vineyards under organic cultivation
  • 40 hectares of crops (legumes, forage plants, olive trees, peach trees, and fallow fields)
  • 310 hectares of forest areas, wild shrubland, field margins, and pastures

This combination creates a mosaic landscape that enhances biodiversity and generates a dynamic and balanced natural ecosystem, contributing to the healthy and resilient development of the vines.

In 2010, Llopart integrated forest management with vineyard management and launched a continuous environmental assessment project, through which it has been able to map the estate’s landscape and identify improvements for its maintenance and enhancement.

The extensive forest mass managed by the winery—much of it classified as part of the Protected Natural Area of the Muntanyes d’Ordal—provides a green footprint with a carbon capture capacity nearly three times higher than the CO₂ generated by the winery’s production activity.

A European project for resilient landscapes

Fire Wine is part of the European Fire-Res project, a technological innovation initiative aimed at promoting resilient landscapes and preventing large wildfires. Its goal is to provide forest estates located in wine-growing regions with tools and management models that help reduce fire risk.

According to Soazig Darnay, coordinator of the seal: “Vineyards can be especially useful in shaping the urban-rural interface by compensating for the abandonment of farmland and the creation of large continuous forests, thereby helping to prevent major wildfires. With this seal, we aim to convey to consumers that behind every bottle there is also work in fire prevention and landscape management.”

With this recognition, Llopart reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, responsible land management, and the preservation of natural and viticultural heritage, actively contributing to building a more resilient territory in the face of the climate emergency.
