Harvested varieties

Red grapes: Monastrell, Garnatxa, Pinot Noir, and Sumoll.

Temperatures

Moderate temperatures from autumn to spring. During the summer we have had some days with heat peaks. The altitude of our vineyards provides a thermal contrast between day and night that is optimal for grape ripening.

Rainfall

Scant rainfall, but slowly recovering to the levels prior to the severe drought of recent years. The most abundant rainfall occurred in summer when the grapes were already quite formed. In the vineyards of Llopart the rainfall was even lower than in the surrounding areas. In total 410mm of rain was recorded throughout the wine-growing year (considerably less than the usual average of 577mm). The average rainfall of the last four wine-growing years has been 351mm.

Grape health

Excel·lent.

Pruning and green pruning

We carry out winter pruning using the traditional Respectful pruning, reducing the surface area of the cut and sculpting each vine respecting the natural growth of the plant for its optimal qualitative performance.
Spring green pruning has been moderate to counteract the lower aerial leaf growth of the vine due to the lack of rain, avoiding overexposure of the grape to the sun and obtaining homogeneous ripening while it was on the vine.

Yield

Beyond the usual pruning aimed at containing production, production has been low or very low depending on the plots since the vines have suffered from the lack of water in recent years.

Pressing

A significant part of the vineyards are harvested in boxes that allow us to pour the grapes directly into the press. These bunches are pressed whole, maintaining the maximum integrity of the fruit, minimizing maceration and extraction, and optimizing the production of musts. We use small pneumatic presses with a capacity of only 30 and 40 Hl. Low-pressure extraction: yield of only 50 – 55% to extract the best qualities of each variety.

Vinification

After the harvest, and with the wines in the barrels and in the tanks, we monitor them to see their evolution. The art of observing and being patient, of giving each wine the time it requires to reach its potential.
